#110 Reflecting on another group voice thread activity

I will be reflecting on Group four "Arabic hospitality"

I really liked this project, the learning  objective was clear, there were many prerequisites , and  the assessment was clear. I think students will learn a lot about the Arabic vocab, culture, and hospitality from this project. They will enjoy watching the movie clip and the last activity which is photo story or the comic life are both good ideas.  You shared with  us wonderful ideas to use in the Arabic class. I have also another idea beside the photo story which is Animoto. Students can uploads pictures for the two cultures and write text for each picture in Arabic and then create the video . With this activity they can compare between the two culture. They can post the video to their blogs.

Reflection 108

Group hangout was my first new experience. The group members were friendly and cooperative. We planned for our meeting a head of time. We had some problem in the audio system, but we discussed together by typing the work till the end of our project. I learned a lot about distance learning from this course. I'm still learning. I cant think now for an idea how to develop group  activities in distance learning.

Fostering communications

I teach Arabic as a second language to middle school I use the three mode of communications, the interpretive, presentation, and interpersonal mode.  When I have a topic about, for example, Arabian breakfast, I assigned students to collect information about the Arabian breakfast from one of the middle eastern countries. They can make a power point presentation about some of the middle eastern breakfast dishes. They can explain why in such country like to start their day with such a meal.(interpretive) They can compare between  the Arabian breakfast and the American breakfast.(presentation) They can identify whats in common between the two breakfast.( interpersonal) I think the three modes are supplementary to each other.I also learned from this course how to include the three modes in teaching. When we engage technology in teaching, learning will be more fun for students.

Connected Teaching

The value I take away from connecting with others is the amount of knowledge and information I acquire from exchanging with my colleagues and fellow professionals in my network. I use different tools including social media such as Facebook to post and learn new information about education, religion, etc. Also, I use an application called Whatsapp where  I am a part of different groups where we can come together and chat about specific topics revolving around our professional interests.

Online and Blended Learning

Hi everyone:  Online and blended learning are both good way for teaching college students. I think Blended learning is better than online learning. In blended learning, students may meet once a week face to face, so they can discuss things in person. Online classes are good for post-graduates and working people. They can be done at any time and don't have a specific time.
I teach middle school students and I use technology in teaching, such as Animoto and PowerPoint presentations. I think for younger students face to face is more effective, with using some technology.
I was unable to connect to the Google Hangout for the last few meetings. I had some trouble connecting to my account. I will get in contact with my group members to plan for the future task.
